Proficiency Promotion Policy
Oklahoma Union Student Proficiency Based Promotion Policy
Oklahoma Union students shall demonstrate mastery of the state academic content standards in the following subject areas in order to graduate from Oklahoma Union public schools with a standard diploma.
- Algebra I
- English II; and/or English III
- Two of the following five
- Algebra II
- Biology I
- Geometry, and
- United States History
- English III (if not used as required English EOI)
To demonstrate Mastery, the student shall attain at least a proficient score on the end of instruction (EOI) criterion referenced test administered pursuant to Section 1210.508 of Oklahoma School Law (page 335).
Students demonstrating mastery of state academic content standards (minimum level) by achieving at least a proficient score on Oklahoma State Department of Education EOI tested subject areas while failing to complete minimum subject area requirements (class assignments & test) will be proficiency based promoted with a transcript grade of a C for advanced and D for Proficient.
Upon request from a parent or guardian, a student will be given the opportunity to demonstrate proficiency in the Learner Outcomes: State Competencies and subject area curriculum.
Students demonstrating proficiency in a set of competencies at the 90% level shall be advanced to the next level of study in the appropriate curriculum area(s). This decision will take into consideration such factors as social, emotional, physical and mental growth. The school will confer with parents in making such promotions/acceleration decisions.
Oklahoma Union will provide opportunities for proficiency-based promotion testing on first Monday in August and the second Monday in January of each school year. Parents must contact building principal at least 30 days prior to test date to make arrangements for this testing.
Credit for Concurrent Enrollment Policy
Oklahoma Union students earning college credit through concurrent enrollment for any higher education courses that are correlated with the academic credit course offerings at Oklahoma Union public schools shall receive high school graduation credit. Grade assigned to transcript will reflect grade earned in concurrent enrolled class. Academic credit will be transcripted as elective credit if there is no correlation between the concurrent enrollment higher education course and a course provided by the school district. (Page 891 Oklahoma School Law & page 315 Accreditation standards) If concurrent enrollment is correlated with academic course needed to meet graduation requirement, students are required to complete two concurrent classes in subject area to satisfy Oklahoma Union public school graduation requirements. (ex. Comp I and Comp II will replace English 4 for graduation)
High School Credit for Course taken during Middle School Policy
Middle school students achieving minimum content standards for enrolled class and/or demonstrating mastery by attaining at least a proficient score on the EOI criterion referenced tests administered pursuant to Section 1210.508 of Oklahoma School Law will receive high school credit. Pursuant to Oklahoma School law, that class will not count as one of the required subject area classes for graduation. ( ex. Students that take Algebra I in middle school will still have to take three additional math classes in high school)
High School Credit Recovery Policy
Oklahoma Union high school students will be offered online coursework for credit recovery. Students enrolled in online credit recovery classes as a result of failing to meet minimum subject area requirements and/or to demonstrate mastery of state academic content standards for EOI tested subjects will receive high school credit upon completion of coursework and scoring at least proficient on EOI test for tested subjects. Students will receive a transcript grade based on score from EOI test. C for advanced and D for Proficient.
Students enrolled in online credit recover courses for non EOI tested areas (Students that failed to meet minimum subject area requirements) will receive a transcript grade of D upon completion of coursework.
Students enrolled in online coursework to accelerate graduation timeline will receive credit upon completion of course work. Grade assigned to transcript will reflect grade earned in course.
