Welcome Sunny Smart at OKU MS/HS Counselor
Oklahoma Union High School Principal Rusty Sellars announces the hire of Sunny Smart as the new middle school and high school counselor.
Smart, a 2012 graduate of Oklahoma Union, joins the staff after most recently serving as a fifth grade teacher at Lagway Elementary School in Conroe, Texas.
She returns to Oklahoma Union, because “it is the place that made me who I am today.”
“I love OKU with all my heart and I wanted a place where I could raise my daughter and not worry about her getting lost in the shuffle,” Smart said. “My Dad [Dale Niemeyer] works at OKU and I truly love it with all my heart.
“One day, I plan to give back by coaching and helping out as much as I can. I love OKU and I am excited to be back to my roots.”
Sellars said administrators are thrilled to have Smart return to join the middle and high school faculty.
“It's inspiring to see her journey come full circle—from learning in our classrooms to now leading our students with passion and purpose,” Sellars said. “I look forward to the energy and experience she will bring to Oklahoma Union.”
As the middle and high school counselor, Smart takes over for Karen Auer, who is retiring after 16 years at OKU.
