Welcome Ty Taylor as OKU MS/HS Ag Instructor & FFA Advisor
Oklahoma Union High School Principal Rusty Sellars announces the hire of Ty Taylor as the new agricultural education instructor for OKU middle and high school.
Taylor, a 2018 graduate of OKU, joins the staff after ag instructor and FFA Adviser Cara Comstock left to lead the American Farmers & Ranchers Cooperative youth program.
Sellars said he’s thrilled to have Taylor come back to the OKU family.
“His unique perspective and experience will be a great addition to our team,” Sellars said. “[He] will complement the work of our present and past ag teachers perfectly, creating an even more dynamic and supportive learning environment for our students.”
Taylor has many fond memories of his time as a member of the OKU FFA program, most of which he said, were made in the ag truck with Blake Collier as they traveled across the state and country.
“Being a student at Oklahoma Union, and specifically being involved with the FFA program, completely changed my life,” Taylor said. “I was presented with numerous opportunities to grow as a person and improve my own future.
“During my time at OKU, I had many people who went above and beyond their job to ensure that I reached my goals. I accepted this position because I sincerely hope to give back to a program and community that has done so much for me.”
Taylor said he looks forward to coming home to work with OKU students.
“Coming from this community I know exactly the kind of work ethic, determination, and talent our students display,” Taylor said. “I can’t wait to help guide the next generation of winners at Oklahoma Union FFA.”
He joins Collier as the second member of the two-teacher program. Collier said he is excited to work with Taylor.
“He brings a lot to the table which will help our program succeed,” Collier said. “I had a lot of fun working with Kevin Stacy when I got the chance to come back home [to teach].”
Taylor credits Collier’s influence as a primary reason he chose to become an ag instructor.
“Mr. Collier was such a positive influence on me that I wanted to have that same type of impact on my own students in the future,” Taylor said.
During his time at OKU, Taylor was involved in multiple areas including horse and livestock judging, public speaking and cattle grading. He obtained both the State FFA and American FFA degrees, as well as served as the chapter’s president.
Taylor has an associates degree in agriculture from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa and a bachelor’s degree in ag education from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. At both schools he was a member of the competitive livestock judging teams.
For the past three years, Taylor has worked as the ag education instructor and FFA adviser at Copan Public Schools. During his time there, he coached students in various contests, advised students working towards their SAE programs and taught a multitude of classes ranging from eighth grade agricultural explorations to agricultural mechanics.
Taylor and his wife, Phoebe, will celebrate their one year anniversary in June.
Taylor was formally hired as the ag instructor during the May 2025 OKU School Board meeting.
